Dec 21: protests at funeral of Montazeri

"Hundreds of thousands of opposition protesters openly challenged the authority of Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, today by mourning the death of a dissident cleric who had questioned Khamenei's fitness to rule.

The mass turnout in Qom for the funeral of Grand Ayatollah Hossein-Ali Montazeri, who died on Sunday, aged 87, came just a day after Khamenei had dismissed him as a figure who had failed "a big test" and ordered a security clampdown to deter mourners from paying their respects.

Instead, the event turned into the opposition Green Movement's biggest show of strength in months. The sheer numbers – including many wearing the opposition's signature colour of green – seemed to confirm the Islamic regime's fears that Montazeri's death could provide a fresh spark for the simmering discontent over President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's hotly disputed re-election last June." -Guardian

December 7: pro-Democracy protesters bringing down banner of Ayatollah Khamenei.  Protesters have denied allegations by Supreme Leader Khamenei that protesters desecrated predecesser Ayatollah Khomeini's picture.  The regime uses both figures on most banners throughout Iran.

Statement from Kaleme of Green Movement: Following the planned scenario for disgracing Imam Khomeini and accusing the Green movement and the students of this act, since yesterday official pro-Ahmadinejad media have started a heavy propaganda with a hidden agenda, and based on the information available it seems that they are preparing for some harsher crack downs of the opposition movement.

All supporters of the Green movement are strongly advised to be extremely vigilant and make sure to stay on top of the latest news.  Because of the extreme restrictions on informing people, Kaleme (Mousavi's official website) is advising other news media to warn their users about the necessity of being watchful!
